Summerville is a small but growing South Carolina town located about 25 miles north of Downtown Charleston and we are blessed to be able to call Summerville home to our real estate company. Summerville is steep in history dating back to the late 1700’s when the Charlestonians and other inhabitants of the Lowcountry sought relief from the summer heat and headed north from May through September to this tiny forest colony soon dubbed Summerville. Written on our town’s official seal is “Sacra Pinus Esto – The Pine is Sacred.”
Summerville motto “The Flower Town in the Pines” best reflects its beauty and charm. One of the most noted places is Azalea Park; a breathtaking 16 acres filled with winding pathways, ponds, bronze statues as well as beautiful Azaleas, Wisteria, Camellias, White Dogwoods, two tennis courts, the Cuthbert Community Center and two beautiful wedding gazebos.
Summerville has grown in population from around 6,000 in the late 1970’s to about 46,000 in 2016 with recent years showing double digit growth rates as more businesses set up shop in the local area. Summerville continues to attract families, businesses, entrepreneurs as well as military personnel all looking for a great quality of life with top area schools, varied entertainment and cultural activity. The recent additions of Boeing, Mercedes Benz, and now Volvo moving to the area is testimony to our business friendly environment, great technology schools, beaches and overall amazing quality of life. Summerville still retains our small town charm with the weekly farmers market, local community theater, and every third Thursday the shops in downtown Summerville stay open late for you to explore the many shops, restaurants and live music.

If you enjoy exploring you won’t want to miss out on visiting the new Ashley River Park. The Ashley River is one of the most amazing coastal rivers in South Carolina, the Ashley River runs more than 30 miles from its headwaters in the Great Cypress Swamp to the Charleston Harbor. Not only is the area a recreational hot spot for paddling, wildlife watching and enjoying the river from its banks, but it is also rich with history including iconic plantations predating the Revolutionary War.
The Ashley River area contains 26 separate sites listed in the National Register of Historic Places and the Ashley also provides habitat for abundant wildlife including endangered sturgeon, striped bass and the rare swallow-tailed kite. Tidally influenced throughout its length, the upper river provides paddlers sanctuary from large, motorized boats which frequent its lower reaches where it adjoins the harbor. You can easily access the majestic Ashley River at the Herbert H. Jessen Boat Landing in the Oakbrook area of Summerville.

Legend Oaks
